What makes Dr. Veneta freeze-dried food different?
Dr. Veneta freeze-dried raw food preserves all the natural nutrients and benefits of raw feeding while making it incredibly convenient. No freezer needed, no mess — just pure, high-quality nutrition your dog will love.
Is Dr Veneta's dog food formulated by a vet?
Yes. Every Dr Veneta recipe is formulated by Dr Veneta Kozhuharova, a practising veterinary surgeon and canine nutritionist whose work has been featured in Vet Record, Dogs Naturally Magazine, and Westies & Besties Magazine. Her clinical experience shapes every recipe, from ingredient selection to the functional supplement range.
How do I transition my dog to freeze-dried raw food?
We recommend transitioning gradually over 7–10 days. Start by mixing 25% Dr. Veneta with 75% of your current food, then slowly increase the ratio each day until fully transitioned.
Can puppies or senior dogs eat Dr Veneta freeze-dried food?
Yes — our range is suitable for dogs from 6 months of age, with recipes designed to support different needs throughout adulthood and into the senior years, including Stay Mobile and Stay Young. For tailored advice on your dog's specific needs, Dr Veneta offers one-to-one consultations.
Does Dr Veneta dog food contain buckwheat?
No. None of Dr Veneta’s freeze-dried dog food recipes contains buckwheat.
We understand that dog owners may have questions following the recent precautionary recall of Years fresh dog food after reports of sudden bilateral dry eye. Buckwheat is being investigated as a potential contributing factor, including the possibility of contamination within part of the ingredient supply. However, no causal link has yet been confirmed, and investigations are continuing.
All Dr Veneta recipes are buckwheat-free. You can find the complete ingredient list for every recipe on its individual product page.
How does freeze-dried raw compare to kibble or frozen raw food?
Freeze-drying retains around 99% of a food's natural nutrients, compared to just 0–33% for kibble and 70–90% for frozen raw. Unlike frozen raw, Dr Veneta's freeze-dried food is shelf-stable and needs no freezer, while still delivering the same minimally-processed, natural-ingredient benefits as a raw diet — without kibble's heat-processing nutrient loss.
Why choose freeze-dried over traditional raw feeding?
Freeze-drying preserves the same nutritional benefits as raw feeding — proteins, enzymes, probiotics, and amino acids — without the mess, freezer storage, or handling risks of frozen raw. The process removes moisture through sublimation rather than heat, so nutrients aren't cooked away, giving you raw-equivalent nutrition with kibble-level convenience.
What ingredients go into Dr Veneta's recipes?
Each recipe combines lean proteins (chicken, turkey), antioxidant-rich berries (blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, cranberry), fibre-rich fruit (apple, pear), nutrient-dense vegetables (swede, carrot, pumpkin), and a blend of functional herbs (dandelion root, green tea, nettle, rosehip, chamomile) — chosen to support digestion, immunity, joint health, and coat condition. Ingredients are responsibly sourced, primarily from the UK.
Is Dr Veneta dog food suitable for sensitive stomachs or allergies?
Our recipes use single, easily-digestible proteins like chicken and turkey, and are free from artificial preservatives, additives, and common allergens. Freeze-drying also eliminates parasites and bacteria without heat or chemicals, making it a gentle option for dogs with sensitive digestion. If your dog has specific dietary needs, Dr Veneta also offers personalised consultations.
